Ghost Express calling at Chapel Cleeve

(23/03/2012 @ 16:06:00)

Chapel Cleeve Manor, in association with Channel 4's Country House Rescue and PEEL Heritage, a leading specialist in heritage entertainment consultancy, is to open its doors with a ghost tour to remember on Thursday 12th April 2012 for one day only.

The Chapel Cleeve Manor Ghost Express will operate two tours on West Somerset Railway, allowing visitors to travel by steam train to the Manor and discover its dramatic 'haunted past'. There will be chilling tales and unsolved mysteries, plus an unexpected twist to keep tour groups guessing. This will be the first time that the house has been open as a visitor attraction and the day's activities will all be caught on film.

Chapel Cleeve Manor dates back to 1455 and is the remains of a pilgrim's hospice attached to the original chapel. The Tudor-style country house has had many alterations throughout the last 500 years and was more recently converted in to a hotel used for conferences, weddings and banqueting facilities.

Current owner, Jeannie Wilkins, wishes to reopen the manor to share her love of the house with the local community and bring the estate back to life.

Audience development consultant and managing director of PEEL Heritage, Susannah Daley, commented:

"We are really excited about the Ghost Express Tours at Chapel Cleeve. The house is clearly the star and makes the perfect setting for a 'ghostly' adventure. These initial tours will provide an excellent platform for future visitor entertainment on the estate and we look forward to hearing feedback on the success of this event."

Places are limited on the tours and tickets will need to be pre-booked. Each tour lasts approximately 50 minutes at Chapel Cleeve and refreshments are available from the manor. Tickets are priced at the following: Adults £24, Children/Concessions £16 and Family tickets at £65 (2 adults and up to 4 children), and include an all-day Rover Ticket on West Somerset Railway and a coach connection to and from Chapel Cleeve.
