Mixed Traction Weekend Update

(21/03/2012 @ 18:45:00)

The West Somerset Railway is proud to present a weekend of diesel traction with a selection of visiting and home fleet diesel locomotives running our intensive timetable. June 15th – 17th.

During this year five of the Heritage Diesel Locomotives based at the DEPG Williton Depot will reach their 50th Anniversary sincer their introduction into service by British Railways as part of the countrywide changeover from steam to diesel traction. Of the five, four have already seen service in preservation on the West Somerset Railway, the newcomer being Class 33 "Crompton" No. D6575 (33057). Purchased as a source of spares by the owner of sister Class 33 "Crompton" No. D6566 in 2006, D6575 has now been fully overhauled and is due to enter service in preservation for the first time in early April.

The full list of Birthday locomotive is as follws:-

In addition, the DEPG plan to have in service for this Golden Jubilee Gala the following three locomotives:-

As yet no visiting locomotives have been secured but it is hoped we will be able to announce at least one mainline locomotive later this Spring.
