The Railway always extends a warm welcome to film & photo shoot crews and can provide some of the best services available today.
You have a choice of 10 stations from the tiny wayside halt at Doniford. Originally built to allow troops to reach Doniford Army Camp. Now an idyllic spot with a choice of countryside or sea as a background. There is no car park but moving your crew by train would be easy. Or for something bigger try Minehead. An excellent background of the old part of the town recalls the days of the 40s and 50s. The platforms are very long and a substantial train can be provided for those departure scenes.
In between you can discover quintessential country stations like Stogumber where time has stood still for decades or Blue Anchor where 2 tracks mean action of 2 trains passing is possible with the added advantage of a working level crossing with old style gates.
The WSR can offer a variety of freight wagons in authentic livery for a goods train or trains made up of 50 year old coaches. A range of locomotives are available from small tank engines to large freight engines if authentic period locomotives are required.
The WSR also has the advantage of running through steep sided cuttings or rolling countryside where selection of scene background is made much easier. The WSR has a well trained team who can advise on all the safety considerations for filming on and adjacent to the tracks.
If you need a train at your disposal that is not a problem. The WSR will supply a list of days when there are no normal passenger services and your train hire will cater for your needs. These days are normally over the period October to March that provides the best visual effect from the locomotive due to the increased visible smoke and steam in the cooler weather.
Many of our stations have catering facilities that can provide much needed beverages and light refreshments to your film crew.
So for idyllic locations and a flexible hire package to meet your exact requirements call on the West Somerset Railway plc.
