If you are unfamiliar with
Great Britain you may not have heard of the West Somerset Railway and the area it serves.
The nearest large town is Taunton, county town of Somerset From Taunton to Bishops Lydeard, which is the southern terminus of the Railway is 10 km (4 miles).
Taunton is well-served by the British Motorway network. From the Roman City of Bath (with its Roman Baths, Abbey,
Museum and Georgian architecture) it is some 96 km (60 miles) via the M4 and M5 motorways. From
Bristol the distance is 72 km (45 miles) along the M5. Further west the M5 also serves the major Devon cities of
Exeter 63 km away (35 miles) and
Plymouth. All of these cities have a long and interesting history and are well-placed to be bases for a holiday break in this beautiful part of the
