Visits From Overseas (2015 season)
If you are unfamiliar with Great Britain, or England specifically, you may not have heard of the West Somerset Railway and the area it serves.
The nearest large town is Taunton which lies four miles (10kms) east of Bishops Lydeard, which is the southern terminus of the West Somerset Railway.
Taunton is well-served by the British motorway network (M5). There are many towns and cities within easy reach of Taunton including the historic Roman city of Bath (60 miles (96kms), the ancient port of Bristol at 45 miles (72 kms) with Brunel’s famous suspension bridge at Clifton over the Avon Gorge. To the south are the cities of Exeter and Plymouth 35miles (63kms)with long sea-faring traditions and all within an easy drive of Taunton.
Other sites of note are the National Parks of Exmoor (famous for the Exmoor beast and Lorna Doone and being a dark-sky designated area for astronomy) and Dartmoor which featured in Sir Arthur Conan-Doyles book ‘The Hound of the Baskervilles.’
So come and see us, ride the train and tour the area. You’re sure to enjoy it and want to come back time and time again. Why not check out our Tripadvisor page?
